I need a break, but I'd rather have a breakthrough,
I'm losing my sleep running after you,
But still, I'd rather have a breakthrough,
So I don't stop making moves,
I need a break, but I'd rather have a breakthrough,
I'm tripping on hurdles running after you,
But I can see it right at my fingertips,
Isn't it classic?
- Bryce Avary of The Rocket Summer
Every song has a different meaning to every person. It's an odd thing, really. Originally when I heard this song, I did not like it. I thought that he was meaning he'd rather have a breakthrough in his career, or elsewhere, in life. I mean, it sounds a little bit like a potential break-up song. But, now that I've had more experience with life, I've realized that I don't think that was the original intent of the lyrics.
He needs a break from everything,
But he'd rather have a breakthrough in getting to a girl,
He's been wanting something big to happen in the relationship, but it just hasn't happened.
The song is the start of a new thought process, where he realized things aren't just gonna happen. You have to make a move, otherwise it might be too late.
There's a million other interpretations (yes, I do realize Bryce is happily married), but this one is mine :)
